Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell said, he will lead the way in declaring his assets as soon as the work of the Integrity Commission has begun.
It was one of the major pronouncements during the presentation of the 2013 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure at the Grenada Trade Centre on Tuesday.
More than half a million dollars have been budgeted for the work of the Integrity Commission this year. In an effort to encourage greater efficiency, as soon as the work begins, Dr. Mitchell said, an invitation was extended to the Commission to undertake the work in phases.
The Grenadian Leader said, all Members of this Government will declare their assets, liabilities, and income as soon as the Integrity Commission commences its work.
“Mr Speaker, I will lead the way, and mine will be made public to all and sundry. We will know who is who in this society.” The Prime Minister said.
He said, it’s only the truth that will work and not propaganda, and called on all Parliamentarians; the Lower House and the Senate to get ready.
Dr. Mitchell said, the phased approach will start with members of Cabinet, members of Parliament, Senior Managers and Officers in Revenue Collection Agencies, in order to expedite this work.
“An allocation of 600 thousand has been made to provide for the work of the integrity commission this year”, the Finance Minister said.
The 2013 Budget also addressed measures to ease the burden being experienced by depositors of Capital Bank International which suffered financial collapse a few years ago.
