The Grenada Bureau of Standards will be hosting a half day symposium on Codex Alimentarius.
The symposium is part of a week’s activities (24–28 June 2013) to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission. It is scheduled for Wednesday 26 June 2013 and has been organised to raise awareness of Codex Alimentarius’ role and importance in the food trade.
Codex Alimentarius is Latin and simply translated it means ‘food code/law’. It is the international food standard setting body of FAO/WHO. Its mandate is to establish international food standards, protect the health of consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade.
The Bureau is the National Contact Point for Codex and as a result houses Codex food standards, guidelines, procedures and other relevant documents. It is also responsible for the coordination of Codex related activities at the national level.
