A representative of the Grenada Ports Authority has confirmed that a shipment of lumber from the USA has been quarantined due to a claim by one of the stevedores that a snake was sighted among the construction materials.
Ian Evans, Manager at the Port said that following the claim by the worker on Wednesday morning, the Pest Management Unit was notified and the shipment will remain in a quarantined state until the Pest Management Unit gives the all clear.
“What must be understood is that right now we have found no snake; it is just that someone has claimed that they have seen one and it is our responsibility to ensure that this matter is being investigated and the necessary actions are taken,” Evans said.
A representative from Pest Management Unit is stationed at the Port daily.
