Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, met with HOK Master Planners and Architects in Washington DC, to discuss his vision for expanding Grenada’s Knowledge Economy and was shown initial computer models for the development of a Medical Park in Grenada.
This followed a March meeting held in Grenada with St George’s University (SGU) Chancellor, HOK Master Planners and other investors.
Beyond this, the Prime Minister discussed with HOK further ideas for creating a knowledge zone that might attract other universities to Grenada, as well as companies providing international services in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and other professional services.
Dr Mitchell expressed the view that Grenada has an opportunity to lead the Caribbean on ICT, given his role in the Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network, (CKLN) and ICT within Caricom Heads of Government.
The discussions also considered options for improving the attractiveness of St George’s for tourism and for realising the Prime Minister’s vision of a sports zone surrounding the Queen’s Park area. This would help position Grenada as an international location for Knowledge, Health and Wellness, and Vitality. In the discussions, Dr Mitchell reflected on the sporting success of Kirani James and the growing trend of sports and vitality in Grenada, including initiatives such as the SSU’s “Boot Camp.”
Subject to government approvals, the prospective investors in the Medical Park wish to work with the government to begin positioning Grenada as a destination for investment in Health, Wellness and Vitality at the International Medical Tourism Conference in Washington DC this September.
