The Grenada Market Access and Rural Enterprise Development Programme (MAREP) held its second sod turning ceremony for the Bellair Coco Road at the Mt Reuil, St Patrick at 3:30pm on Wednesday 14 May, 2014.
MAREP is a six year programme (2011-2017) funded by the Government of Grenada, the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). MAREP focuses on poverty reduction in collaboration with stakeholders in 50 rural communities across Grenada and Carriacou.
Part of MAREP’s programme is to improve access to agricultural holdings for increased agriculture production and sustainable livelihoods for farmers. These roads will be financed by the CDB. Local builders will be contracted to employ persons from within the communities. The Bellair Coco Road was selected for construction through this medium. Parliamentary Representative for St Patrick’s West, Minister Anthony Boatswain turned the sod with Bauxton Francois, member of the MAREP project steering committee.
