The National Parenting Programme of the Ministry of Social Development and Housing extends greetings on the occasion of the International Day of Families, celebrated each year on the 15 May.
Under the local theme “Healthy Relationships: The foundation of functional families,” the ministry organised activities to commemorate this very important day, including an island wide motorcade on Saturday 17 May. The motorcade begins at 10:00 am, beginning in the city of St George’s and ending at the Cuthbert Peters Park in St John.
Other activities include community outreach initiatives focused on the theme that will commence towards the end of the month of May and continue into the month of June.
The Gender Division of the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, will also be doing their part to recognise this day. They will be hosting activities such as awareness drives within several communities, schools and clinics, radio awareness programmes, information booths, and afternoon workshops.
The ministry encourages persons to take the time out to recognise and pay tribute to their families, and wishes the nation a Happy International Day of Families 2014! “Organise a special activity with your family and demonstrate to them how important they are to you. Remember, we do not get to choose our family but rather, they are a gift given to us. We must love, cherish and preserve this irreplaceable gift.”
