On 22 August 2014, the Grenada Union of Teachers Co-operative Credit Union presented 96 grants to students who were successful in the 2014 CPEA, each consisting of cheque toward school supplies and a deposit toward a Smart Saver account to encourage the students to save.
This is the 9th year that the Credit Union has awarded CPEA grants to the children of its members. “The GUT Cooperative Credit Union recognises the importance of higher education and lifelong learning”, noted Egbert La Geer, chairman of the Credit Union’s education commitee. “As the GUTCCU endeavours to assist members with coping with the economic challenges faced on a daily basis, it is our hope that the assistance provided today will serve to contribute toward reducing the financial burden associated with back to school preparation.”
Since the inception of the GUT Credit Union CPEA Grant, over 585 students have benefitted from the endeavour at a total value of $200,750.
