“Changing The Conversation For Gender Equality and Equity” is the theme for the annual general meeting of the Grenada National Organisation of Women (GNOW), which will be held tomorrow, Saturday 13 September, at the Public Workers Union Conference Room.
The open session will be conducted from 1:30 to 3:45 pm and will be in the form of a special presentation by former Senator Darryl Brathwaite. During the closed session, members will review the work of the organisation since its previous meetings, and are also expected to elect a new executive. The outgoing president is Bernadette “Teacher Molly” Bartholomew.
GNOW Inc. is the umbrella non-governmental organisation for women in Grenada. It is a vibrant national women’s organisation addressing the needs of all segments of the female population of Grenada and attracting national and international support for gender equality, gender equity, women’s empowerment and involvement in development including economic, social and political dimensions.
Its mission is to create a change in the socialisation and culture of power relations between women and men through sensitisation and action for equal participation in the household, the community, the workplace and in national life.
Its core values include developing a culture in which members have a sense of belonging/ownership of the organisation; providing a forum for the full and free expression of views and opinions; facilitating full participation and collective decision-making; creating and promoting awareness for motivating and mobilising members and affiliates to be proactive and vigilant advocates for women’s rights and identifying challenges facing women and barriers to gender equality and taking appropriate actions.
