The Carriacou & Petite Martinique Carnival Development Committee (CPMCDC) launched the Carriacou Carnival 2015 on October 25, Thanksgiving Day, on the Esplanade in Hillsborough under the theme “Celebrating the legacy of Shakespeare and embracing the splendour of our Traditional Mas.”
Shakespeare Mas is a novel attraction where masqueraders have a lyrical competition on poetic recitals from the plays and sonnets of William Shakespeare.
Carriacou’s Carnival takes place during the pre-Lenten season, culminating on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Next year’s event features calypso, soca, and steel pan competitions, Carnival Queen Pageant, and street parades from 25 January to 17 February, 2015.
The Grenada Tourism Authority, through its office in Carriacou supports the CPMCDC and markets the carnival. Carnival encourages increased inter-island travel and stayover visitor arrivals.
