“Vaccination prevents diseases and saves lives… Boost Your Power… Get Vaccinated”, is the message local health officials are sending this week, as Grenada joins more than 25 nations in observing this year’s Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA).
In Grenada, training seminars, community outreach and awareness initiatives involving children, teachers and parents, are being undertaken to encourage access to vaccines and promote its many significant benefits.
Parish matches, nurses’ quiz, media interviews, an award ceremony, and a road relay, are just some of the activities being undertaken by the Ministry of Health, explained Nurse Allyson Clouden Grenada’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) manager.
Grenada, she says, has a successful immunization program and it is imperative that full advantage is taken of the benefits. Clouden, who has more than 25 years nursing experience, says immunization protects against more than 20 different vaccine preventable diseases. This year’s activity culminates on 4 May 2015.
