Financial Literacy Quiz by GUT Credit Union

The GUT Cooperative Credit Union is once again hosting its National Financial Literacy Quiz for Secondary Schools. The quiz, which began last year, aims to broaden the awareness among students on areas of budgeting, saving, investing, economics and current financial news.

“We view this event not only as a competition among secondary school students, but as a tool that can be used to generate change in Grenadian society,” said Carl Andall, President of the Credit Union. “We believe that once persons acquire a working knowledge of basic financial transactions they would now feel empowered and confident to face the challenges — which we are now faced with as a nation, in this time of Structural Adjustment.”

The quarterfinal matches begin tomorrow, Wednesday, and will see the following schools up against each other:

Date Time School School
13 May
2 pm St Joseph’s Convent – St George’s vs. St Joseph’s Convent – St Andrew
3 pm St Rose Modern Secondary School vs. Grenada Boys’ Secondary School
14 May
2 pm Presentation Brothers’ College vs. St Mark’s Secondary School
3 pm St David’s Catholic Secondary School vs. Mac Donald College

Matches will be televised on Grenada Broadcasting Network. The St David’s Catholic Secondary School is looking to defend its title as winners in the competition. The final round will take place on Thursday, 28 May from 2 pm at the Grenada Trade Centre.
