Government is trying to exercise greater efficiency in the running of the four major festivals on the sister isles. To put the process in motion, Parliament has tabled legislation that will bring all four festivals under one governing body.
The Carriacou and Petite Martinique Festival Act was tabled at a sitting of the Lower House last Friday.
This has become increasingly necessary since government continues to invest heavily in the various events through subventions, while challenged with the lack of accountability.
“We feel that with a small island like ours with four national festivals, it would be a better thing in terms of creating better governance and management structure,” said Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Elvin Nimrod.
“An umbrella body with the right administrative [capacity] brings everything under one umbrella for the benefit of the festival.”
