With less than 1 month to Grenada Fashion Weekend, designers have already completed their concepts and models are fine-tuning their performance. During the Fashion Weekend, which will run from 4 to 6 February 2016, the team will showcase both local and international designers and models at this highly anticipated event.
As many practitioners in the fashion industry admit the most successful models spend much time in mental preparation for photo shoots and shows. As such, the fashion weekend team has created a series of workshops where models are presented with activities to assist in preparing them for the event in all aspects.
Ms Reah-Anna Warren, winner of the Face of Grenada 2014 and model trainer for Grenada Fashion Weekend, states that the models have expressed excitement as they prepare for the Fashion Weekend. Model casting was held on the 5 December 2015, and model training sessions got started right away. Models will participate in a special workshop with the Director of the San Fernando Fashion Week and Grenada Fashion Weekend, later in January 2016.
Fashion events are impossible without skilled and talented designers, who spend a great deal of time creating the concepts that are showcased on the runway. Many can agree that the Fashion Weekend will provide the much-needed exposure and opportunities for the designers to benefit from. Designers participating this year will come from USA, Nevis, St Lucia, Antigua, Trinidad & Tobago, and our own Grenada. Additionally, a designer workshop, which will be held this month will assist the designers that are participating in the show, with information on how to capitalize on the growing fashion market.
The fashion weekend team concedes that the support from sponsors and partners have made the preparation for the event an exciting one. The sponsors and partners include: The Aquarium Restaurant, Grenadian by Rex Resorts, Grenada Tourism Authority, the Undergraduate Student Organisation at the St George’s University, San Fernando Fashion Week, True Blue Bay Resort, and Waggy T Rental and Sounds.
