Minister of Youth, Sports and religious affairs, Hon Emmalin Pierre, has stated that the Government of Grenada has set aside a package of EC$500,000 in the aid of 5 individuals who have done recently exceptionally well in sports.
Cricketer Afy Fletcher, who is the only female in that category, will benefit from house improvements, and official enrollment in the Elite Program in the Ministry of Sports. Other cricketers include Ryan John and Emmanuel Stewart, who will also both receive housing improvements. They will also be going to Barbados to further their studies, and Government has decided to take on that cost.
Andre Fletcher, who was already part of the Elite Program, will now be receiving compensation whenever he is out on business for the West Indies Cricket Board. Minister Pierre also said, “The Elite Program will be expanded to a contract for service.” Anderson Peters, who won the Austin Sealy award in the 2016 CARIFTA Games will receive housing and education as well.
Minister Pierre said, “What we are seeking to do within a week or so is to formalize the incentive package, whereby it will be standardized. The support will be provided to various persons who performed exceptionally well, based on the level that they have performed at.”
