The Grenada Girl Guides Association has embarked on a project to reconstruct its official headquarters at The Villa in St George, at at a cost of EC$585,000.
In 2004, the headquarters was completely demolished by Hurricane Ivan. As a result, the Association lacks meeting space, training space, camping space and storage space among others, all areas which are fundamental to Guiding.
The Association currently relies heavily on the generosity of the Government of Grenada through the Ministry of Education for providing the space for many of its activities. The Anglican Church also plays a pivotal role by housing the Guide shop in its building on Church Street. We are extremely grateful for this support.
The Vision of the Association is to have a central location in which all the main Guiding Activities can be carried out. To date the Association has completed the drawing and costing of the headquarters and has erected a billboard on site, signaling the start of the project.
To accomplish this vision the Association is appealing for financial support from all Grenadians both at home and abroad, development partners based or represented in Grenada and the business community. Regional and international support is also being solicited.
This support is critical as the Association’s programming is fundamental to youth development. The Association has had and continues to have a tremendous positive impact in the lives of youth in Grenada. Valuable life skills are taught including leadership, discipline, environmental protection and protection against violence among others. These skills are important both for national and regional development.
The Association will embark on a number of public awareness and fund-raising activities in the near, medium and long-term to raise the required funds. Financial donations can be made to Account #100002627 at the Grenada Co-operative Bank.
