The Grenada Association of Retired Persons (GARP) will be hosting its first ever Expo on Saturday, 28 October 2017 at the Morne Rouge Playing Field from 10 am to 6 pm.
Being held under the theme ‘Success Aging GARP; Success Aging Expo,’ Founder and President of GARP Carol Vazquez said she guarantees that this event will be successful. They will be portraying different services that are available for seniors in Grenada, and there will be music, foods and storytelling, to ‘bring back the old-time days.’
During the Expo, there will be a health section, where doctors from the St George’s University (SGU) will offer services such as blood pressure and blood sugar testing, as well as feet circulation.
Additionally, Vazquez noted that commercial partners like Bryden & Minors, Gittens Pharmacy and FLOW are expected to be there to display their products and services, and to give information to the general public. She affirmed that a representative from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) would be present to answer questions persons may have.
Speaking to the birth of the idea to have this Expo, Vazquez said although GARP has already been doing a lot of activities, not many persons know about the organisation. “We wanted to be out there so that GARP will be a household name.”
Presently, GARP organises excursions, salsa classes, computer classes and yard sales among other things, for seniors and retirees. They are planning to make the Expo an annual event, as Vazquez believes that it is needed in Grenada.
