One of the Secondary Schools on Carriacou has named its Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM) Laboratory after a corporate body which has assisted school since 2001.

Hillsborough Secondary School announced the dedication recently on the occasion of GRENLEC presenting 20 computers and network support equipment to the secondary school in Hillsborough, Carriacou.

The equipment will, among other things, support the implementation of the Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM) Syllabus.  This course prepares students for a range of clerical and other careers, through exposure to tools and skills that are essential in a business environment.

Making the presentation, GRENLEC’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Clive Hosten, underscored the pivotal role that education must play in economic recovery and coping with the nation’s social issues.  Mr. Hosten went on to say that this is the reason that GRENLEC’s Community Partnership Initiative collaborates with communities to empower citizens.

Principal, Mr. Brian Lendore, expressed the Hillsborough School Community’s gratitude for its long association with GRENLEC.  Through a partnership with GRENLEC, the lab was established in 2005, Mr. Lendore recounted that GRENLEC was the first entity to provide a computer for the school back in 1998.

In the last year, GRENLEC has been involved in the construction of a language lab for Bishop’s College and the formation of the Schools’ Harmony Steel Pan Orchestra of Carriacou and Petit Martinique. GRENLEC worked along with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs to equip the band with the required instruments.

The GRENLEC team thanked the Hillsborough Secondary School Community for its tribute, as well as the presentation of an original painting by McQuien Joseph, a current student at the school.
