Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. the Rt Hon. Keith Mitchell is among Regional Leaders in Caracas Friday for the Swearing in of Venezuelan President-elect Nicolás Maduro Moros.
The swearing in comes nearly a week after Mr .Maduro won the popular vote in Presidential elections held last Sunday in the aftermath of the recent death of President Hugo Chávez.
Scores of Leaders from the Caribbean and Latin America, as well as delegates from throughout the world are due to attend the Ceremony later Friday.
The new Grenada Government has emphasized that strengthening ties with Venezuela, one of its closest neighbours, is one of its main Foreign Policy goals.
Grenada is expected to name an Ambassador to Caracas within weeks. The position has been vacant for nearly two years.
An Aid meeting of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), at which Grenada has observer status, has also been scheduled for Caracas on Friday — taking advantage of the many delegations that will be there.
Prime Minister Mitchell leaves early Friday and is scheduled to return home later that night.
Hon Elvin Nimrod will act as Prime Minister in his absence.
