The Government of Grenada held its third meeting with the Committee of Social Partners on Friday 31 May 2013.
In his opening remarks, Dr. the Rt. Hon Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister stated that he is pleased with the commitment shown by the members of the committee to this monthly dialogue. He reiterated the importance of this Committee of Social Partners as a main platform for bringing about positive economic growth and job creation.
 Among the items discussed at the meeting were:
- The work programme of the Committee including the development and implementation of a Social Protocol as a strategic mechanism for the formulation and implementation of national policies and for ensuring nation-wide problem solving on various issues. An experienced regional professional was identified to facilitate the preparation of the Social Protocol;
- The composition of the sub-committee on wages, prices and productivity and on economic development;
- Government estates;
- The performance of the new Government since assuming Office; and
- Debt Restructuring, including the successful hosting of a Debt Conference by the Conference of Churches of Grenada.
Dr. Mitchell also took the opportunity to brief the meeting on the payment of new salaries to Public Officers and Pensioners as at the end of May 2013. He reconfirmed Government’s commitment to meet all of its obligations to Public Officers in accordance with the various Agreements. He noted that the Government and the unions are continuing discussions about the schedule for the retroactive payments.
The Committee of Social Partners meets on a monthly basis. Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell is the Chairman of the Committee.
