For Tropical North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico

Area of Special Interest: 10 – 20 °N and 45 – 65 °W

 

Tropical Storm Chantal has most likely degenerated into a tropical wave. A reconnaissance plane is en route to verify.

Summary of 800 am…location…16.5N 70.8W about 620 miles northwest of the state of Grenada. Maximum sustained winds…45 mph. Present movement…west at 29 mph. Minimum central pressure…1011 mb. If the reconnaissance plane verifies that Chantal has degenerated into a tropical wave…all tropical cyclone watches and warnings will be discontinued later this morning.….

Elsewhere…tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.
