Fire Safety Training for Accommodation Sector

The first in a series of fire safety training organized by the Grenada Board of Tourism in collaboration with the Grenada Bureau of Standards will be held on Wednesday 16 October 2013.

“The purpose of the training is to assist accommodation facilities in Grenada to comply with Section 5 of the national standard, GDS 25: 2003 Requirements for the Assessment, Licensing & Registration of the Accommodation Sector,” said the news release from the Bureau. It further explained that the Safety Training will be for staff of hotels, guest houses and apartments.

The training will be conducted by the Fire Department of the Royal Grenada Police Force in the following two modules:

MODULE ONE: Theoretical Aspects

  • Types of Fire
  • Fire Triangle
  • Types of extinguishers
  • How to use an extinguisher
  • Rules of fire fighting

MODULE TWO: Practical Aspects

  • Live (fire) demonstration
  • Personnel will be given the opportunity to use a fire extinguisher

The Requirements for the Assessment, Licensing & Registration of the Accommodation Sector standards is a mandatory standards and to date since the programme commenced 2008, forty properties have received certification.
