Today, members of the Senate are expected to give their approval for the Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act, 2014 which sees the removal of Section 6, which makes it a criminal offence for someone to electronically send a message that is offensive, annoying, deceiving or misleading.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell committed to the removal of Section 6, after media persons and others expressed that the section would affect their Freedom of Expression when it came to sending messages electronically. At its March seating, the House of Representatives approved the removal of the section.
