Mickel Joseph and Keston Quashie, two Kayak athletes who were part of the Grenada National Team that participated in the Games which was held on the island of Martinique in April; were recognized by Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs Hon. Elvin Nimrod.
Minister Nimrod during a plaque presentation ceremony noted that students must not look at sports only as an extra curricular activity, but one when combined with academics can build them a solid career.
Reflecting on the days when Carriacou had no secondary school and students travelled to Grenada to receive a secondary education, Minister Nimrod used the opportunity to admonish the students to use their youth to secure their future.
Joseph who attends the Hillsborough Secondary School secured a silver medal in the under 18 boys’ javelin event. This is his third year of participation at the CARIFTA Games.
However, Bishop’s College Keston Quashie was unable to secure a medal in the under 18 boys’ high jump.
The Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs hereby congratulates and recognizes the two for their outstanding performance and participation.
