This Saturday, Port Highway in Tanteen becomes a showcase a potpourri of carnival displays and portrayals, when the Spicemas Corporation (SMC) opens the 2014 Carnival season from 3 pm.
The launch will happen 8 days after the SMC around the island motorcade, which informed and invited the public to attend the launch. The full list of activities for Spicemas 2014 will be revealed during the launch, but Carnival lovers will get a taste of all the exciting events to come, including Steelpan, Fancy mas’, Moko Jumbies, Jab Jab, Vieux Croix (Vecco), Wild Indians and Shortknee. Several Calypso and Soca artistes are also expected to perform.
Alister Bain, Chairman of Spicemas, said, “We are looking forward to a safe, secure and well organised season with the involvement and participation of everyone, including stakeholders, sponsors, the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF), the general public and our visitors.”
Main carnival activities such as Soca Monarch and Panorama, are usually held at the National Stadium. However, this year, due to scheduled cricket games, the main venue for carnival will be the Roy St John Playing Field in Tanteen, alongside which, runs the Port Highway.
