The Alliance Française and the Venezuela Institute have taken the initiative to organise a friendly football competition this Saturday 14 June, with teams representing Venezuela, France, England and Grenada.
The 4 nation friendly football competition was created for the diverse communities living in Grenada to meet and greet, as well as for students of French and Spanish languages to get together. This event is geared for all to have fun. The teams have a very diverse composition, including secondary school students, language teachers and senior football aficionados. Each team will start their matches singing the national anthem of the country they represent.
The first round of the tournament, starting at 3pm at Old Trafford, will oppose England to Grenada and France to Venezuela in 40-minute matches. The two winners will play in the final. The Venezuela Institute has sponsored a trophy for the winning team and the ubiquitous British newspaper The Telegraph will cover the event, which will bring Grenada’s expats into the limelight.
Later, Prickly Bay Marina invites players and supporters to watch the World Cup England vs Italy from 6pm at its new fully air-conditioned sports bar. They offer 3 beers for $10 to those who came to the expat football tournament. The members of the different communities involved, as well as the general public are invited to come in numbers to support their favourite team!
