Eleven football teams in St Andrew are preparing to participate in the St Andrew Football League scheduled to open tomorrow Saturday 13 September, at Victoria Park in St Andrew. The Beacon Insurance sponsored competition is expected to run until November.
The day’s activity will commence at 3pm with a game between a women’s team’s from St Andrew and an All Star women’s team. Following the conclusion of that game, Minister of Sports Hon Emmaline Pierre will declare the season open, together with remarks from GFA President Cheney Joseph.
The featured match of the day will be a local derby between Stria boys and South Stars, two teams from Soubise. One of the organisers of the tournament Peter Blair, commented on expectations for the season. He said he is expecting it to be another successful community tournament, one where games will be well supported by parishioners and where they will be able to identify budding talent in the parish.
Games in the tournament will be played at Victoria Park, Pearls and Ford Playing Fields.
