On Monday, 15 December 2014 the Budget Marine Spice Island Billfish Tournament (BMSIBT) committee announced the launch of the 46th event, which will be held in January 2015.
During the press briefing, the committee unveiled plans for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from 20 to 24 January. Another spectacular event is eagerly expected, with a magnificent display of over 50 sport-fishing boats of varying shapes and sizes visiting Grenada’s shores from the wide international sport-fishing community.
Addressing the media, Diana Pressey, Committee Member, highlighted some of the great features of Grenada’s tournament that makes it so successful, resulting in it standing out from other similar sport-fishing events. “You have heard it said time and time again that Grenada’s tournament is the largest and best tournament in the region. 2015 will be no different! The abundance of fish, beauty of our island, welcoming nature of our people and the overall organization of the event, ensures that visitors have an enjoyable time, enticing them to return and visit us each year.”
After 3 days of fishing, top placing teams and anglers will have the opportunity to win numerous prizes; from record breaking cash prizes to customised reels, paintings and trophies.
In addition to the great prizes in store, the committee announced its plans for the 3rd Grenada Parish Outboard Fishing Competition. This BMSIBT inaugurated tournament will be held on Monday, 19 January. Among the many attractive prizes to be won including the grand prize of a 40 horsepower Yamaha outboard engine valued at over $8,000.00 ECD, are mobile phones, life vests, Yeti Coolers, oils and much more.
Commenting on the local tournament, Richard McIntrye, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized the committee’s continued desire to proactively support the local fishing community. “We recognize the value these tournaments bring to the economy and the community. The Parish Outboard Fishing Competition is a powerful way in which we can involve the fishing community and introduce the level of comradery we have seen time and time again during the BMSIBT. We anticipate another great tournament, with unprecedented levels of participation from the local Grenada fishing industry.”
