15 Customs Officers of the Division of Customs and Excise are currently being trained in the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (GATT) Valuation Method. The training commenced on Monday 26 January, and will end on Thursday.
The GATT is a multilateral agreement regulating international trade, implemented by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Training of the Officers in GATT Valuation is a key component for the implementation of the new Customs Act. The training will equip the officers with the skills for conducting valuations in accordance with the new Act.
The training is being conducted by Mr Michael Jordan, a customs expert. His assignment is being supported by The Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC), in response to a request for technical assistance made by the Comptroller of Customs.
