SPECIAL UPDATE ON HURRICANE CARMEN
Hurricane Carmen slows down in forward speed but continues to strengthen on its westward path to the Windward Islands.
HURRICANE CARMEN…11:00 AM
About 160 miles east of Grenada and its dependencies
Maximum Sustained Winds…97 mph (Category 2)
Movement… west at 19 mph
Minimum Central Pressure… 992 millibars
Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles.
HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT
Grenada and its dependencies are under a hurricane warning. A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within Grenada and its dependencies within the next 36 hours.
Carmen is now a category two (2) hurricane and is expected to produce total rain accumulations between 100 and 150 millimeters. There is a high chance of flooding and landslides in areas so prone. In additional, storm surge as high as 3 feet along the east coast can produce flooding in areas where onshore flow is significant.
All concerned are advised to take measures to preserve life and property.
