The momentum grows as the Pure Grenada Music Festival (PGMF) counts down to the definitive musical experience on Grenada’s event calendar.

Chairperson of the PGMF Steering Committee Jana Caniga confirmed on 21 July 2015, that the most recent addition to the illustrious festival line up is singer, songwriter and actress Ms Joss Stone. Ms Stone is a Grammy and Brit Award winner, whose debut album, The Soul Sessions (2003), catapulted her to fame at only 15 years old.

According to Ms Caniga, “Ms Stone is prolific as she is passionate about her craft.” Stone followed her initial album with Mind Body & Soul (2004), Introducing Joss Stone (2007) and Color Me Free (2009) released on her label Stone’d Records. More recently, she has also graced us with The Soul Sessions 2 (2012). Her career highlights include contributions to albums by Jeff Beck and Ringo Starr, performances at the Super Bowl pre-game show and onstage with the likes of James Brown, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson and Melissa Etheridge among many others

Ms Stone’s most recent 2014 World Tour has been dubbed her most ambitious project yet which she used as a platform to share her vision of collaboration with local homegrown musicians, playing indigenous music as well as her own songs. In addition, she has pledged her support to important humanitarian and environmental issues on her musical journey. As Stone herself puts it, “My mission is to explore and understand the universal language of music in every country on the planet.”

“We are ecstatic to have received Joss Stone’s confirmation and are also truly pleased with the progress of the festival preparations made to date. We owe much gratitude to our founders, sponsors and partners so far“, says Ms Caniga. She also noted that the team is encouraged by the local interest and committment given to all areas of the festival and stressed continued involvement as pivotal to the delivery of a first class event.

The Pure Grenada Music Festival will take place on 5–10 April 2016, across 4 venues throughout the island, showcasing local artistes alongside those more internationally renowned to include folk band Madison Violet (Canada); reggae superstar Etana (Jamaica); international reggae band Steel Pulse (UK); world music sensation Angélique Kidjo (Benin).

ABOUT PURE GRENADA MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Pure Grenada Music Festival quest is to establish a ‘pure approach’ to the music and performances it offers. This means an all-embracing philosophy for the art form, with no filtering out of certain music genres. If it has integrity – if it is ‘pure’ music – we will include it.

The festival will have multiple unique venues spread around the country, showcasing the great and diverse beauty of the island. It will feature as many local bands as possible to give their performances a window to the world. It will establish a Legacy to assist in the development of musical talent in Grenada. It will adhere to established Green Rules in order to ensure that all festival venues remain as pure as we found them, and will do everything in its power to offset any potentially negative environmental impact on this magnificent island.

Grenada is unique, and the Pure Grenada Music Festival will offer a unique experience for everyone from the artists, to the audience, to the sponsors, to the people of Grenada as a whole.
