As a result of an operation carried out by officers attached to Special Services unit Eastern Division in the St. Andrew area, Jenny Samuel 42 years self-employed, of Conference, St Andrew, was arrested and charged for the offence of Sand Mining. Samuel was granted bail in the sum of $4,000 with two sureties. The 42-year-old St Andrew resident has been previously charged on 22 June 2015 for allegedly extracting sand without permission, and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of $3,000.
Also arrested and charged during the police operation for Sand Mining was Denis Sandy, 41-year-old welder, a resident of Conference, St Andrew. Sandy also had another charge of Causing Grievous Harm laid against him. He was later granted bail in the sum of $7,000 with two sureties.
The two are scheduled to make their first court appearance on Friday, 9 October 2015.   Â
Section 2 of the Beach of Protection Act Chapter 29 of Volume 2 of the 2010 Continuous Revised Laws of Grenada prohibits the removal of sand from the seashore.
