The Hon. Elba Rosa Perez Montoya, Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment in Cuba, is expected to journey to Grenada to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) jointly with the Rt. Hon. Dr Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada and Prime Minster responsible for Science and Technology (S&T) in the Caricom.

The invitation for the visit, followed from a very successful visit of a Caricom Science Delegation to Cuba from 14–17 September 2015. The main objective of the MOU is to strengthen collaborative links in S&T between Cuba and Caricom.

The Delegation of 6 was headed by Prof. Emeritus Harold Ramkissoon, and included Profs. Ishenkumba Kahwa, Indar Ramnarine, Basil Burke, Drs. Francis Asiedu and Marcia Roye. During the trip the delegation visited, and met with officials of both the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.

In addition, the delegates visited the well-known International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the Center for Molecular Immunology, The Agriculture University of Havana, LABIOFAM and the headquarters of the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

The visit culminated in a meeting with the Hon. Minister Perez Montoya, who welcomed the Delegation and expressed the desire for stronger collaboration in S&T between Cuba and Caricom. Possible areas of collaboration identified include biotechnology, climate change and the environment, renewable energy and agriculture.
