PBC Alumnus Gives Back

Ras Dakarai aka Preston Holas, multi-instrumentalist who recently returned home on an extended visit, was invited by Mr Jeremiah, the principal of the Presentation Brothers’ College, and band conductor Mr Marcel, to conduct a music workshop at PBC for the school orchestra on Monday afternoon.

During an electrifying performance, the young students expressed their keenness and deep appreciation for the genre of jazz & blues to the surprise of Dakarai, with loud applause. After the performance, the floor was opened for questions and again the curiosity and pertinent questions asked by the budding musicians showed their eagerness to absorb all the information.

Ras Dakarai extended special thanks to the principal for his endeavours in his pursuit of the music program, and the great job he is doing with those young musicians. Other schools should emulate the program because the study of music instills a discipline, which is important whether one wishes to pursue a career in music or not. Music can be a major economic thrust to the nation and a stimulant to the tourism product.

“Our Place” (located in the South City Plaza at Grand Anse Beach) which is hosted by Dakarai, has a Friday evening jazz & blues jam session, and invites all musicians to join in and lend a voice. Budding musicians can also come and listen to some of the experienced instrumentalists that participate in the sessions. Dakarai also extends greetings to any school in the tri-island state that wishes to invite him to conduct similar workshops.
