Advocacy groups, Government officials, and other organizations have been charged with the responsibility of working with women in Grenada towards achieving Gender Equality by 2030.

This call was made by Social Development Minister Hon. Delma Thomas, as the island commemorated International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 8 March.

According to Minister Thomas, there should be less talk and more action towards helping women reach their limitless potential.

“Globally with individual pledging to move from talk to purposeful action, and with men and women joining forces, we can collectively help women advance equal to their numbers and realize their limitless potential all over the world,” said Minister Thomas.

“Here in Grenada, we have made considerable progress through recent years towards achieving gender equality.”

The social development minister applauded Grenada’s ranking as the highest in the Eastern Caribbean with women in leadership and political positions.

“In the area of leadership and politics, Grenada has one of the highest rates of women representative in the world, 33.3% — the highest in the Eastern Caribbean,” Minister Thomas added.

International Women’s Day was held under the theme: “Planet 50/50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”
