Three delegates of the Girl Guides Association of Grenada, Mrs Marian Davidson-Langaigne – Chief Commissioner, Ms Cindy-Ann Alexander – Communication Commissioner and Ms Anaika Alexander – unit leader at the Happy Hill Secondary School, represented the Association at the 14th western Hemisphere Regional Conference in Curaçao from 17 to 22 July 2016.
30 of the region’s 35 Member Organizations, from across North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, attended the conference participated in forums and workshops that gave attention to improving the growth and visibility of the moment.
The sessions discussed Governance, Volunteerism, the Girl Experience among other topics. Head delegate Mrs Marian Davidson-Langaigne reflects that “The conference was ideal at this time as the World Association is focusing on membership growth within our member organizations. Our uniqueness and best kept secret needs to be shared some more. Our task now as members is to go out and do what is expected of us.”
The conference also elected its 6-member governing committee to serve for the next 3 years. Local delegate, Cindy-Ann Alexander was elected to serve on the committee which will be chaired by Joey Rosenberg of Girl Scouts USA.
Grenada’s participation at the conference was very eventful.
The associations current work delivering the “Free Being Me” programme was highly recognized; and the delegation shared its work at one of the round table session. Free Being Me promotes body-confidence and self-esteem among our young girls and boys.
Grenada also captured the coveted title of Host of the 15th Western Hemisphere Regional Conference in 2019.
