Season 9 of the Grenlec Debates is here! The preliminary round of the competition kicked off on Monday, 26 September in Carriacou, where Hillsborough Secondary and The Anglican High School faced each other in the first match of the season.
This year, 23 secondary schools have registered to participate in the much-anticipated competition with the aim of winning the coveted championship title.
2015 champions, St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) expressed their excitement that the debates have started and at having the opportunity to defend their title. “Our students have worked very hard and performed their best in the debates, which we have won three times.” stated Ruel Date, Debate Coach and Teacher at SAASS.
Prudence Greenidge, Manager – Corporate Communications at Grenlec encourages students to embrace the opportunity to enhance their research skills, expand their understanding of our world and build life skills. She commented, “We are delighted with the level of participation from the schools and look forward to another exciting debating season.”
The televised broadcast of the Grenlec Debates begins on Saturday, 8 October, with highlights from the preliminary round.
