19-year-old Willan George, originally from Gouyave, Grenada, is the winner of the 2016 Run de Spice Marathon, completing the 42.2 km road race in a time of 4:41:25.

Willan, running for the reachwithin team, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable children in Grenada, was closely followed by Cleve Pile from Trinidad & Tobago with a time of 4:42:18. Finishing third was Philomena Robertson, who has run for Grenada and reachwithin at the New York City Marathon, in a time of 5:31:47.

dsc_6138In addition to the marathoners, dozens of runners adorned with glowing bracelets and flashing lights raced along the scenic route to complete the Run de Spice half-marathon and 5K races, truly making the event Grenada’s brightest marathon experience. Winning the half-marathon and 5K races were Barbadians Karim Maycock and Dwayne Atherley in times of 1:47:01 and 23:48 respectively. In a small prize-giving ceremony following the races, Marc DeCaul, director of deSpice Events, commended the runners for their determination and tremendous effort.
