POSTPONED: CYEN Grenada Coastal Clean-up Campaign 2017

The Grenada Chapter of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) informs the general public that the coastal clean-up in Morne Rouge, originally scheduled for Saturday, 14 October, has been postponed.

The clean-up is now scheduled for Saturday, 21 October 2017 from 8 am – 2 pm.

Grenada Chapter of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN), in support of International Coast Cleanup 2017, will be hosting a coastal cleanup in Morne Rouge.

International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is a volunteer based campaign which strives to rid the coastal and marine environments of various forms of waste. Land based pollution continues to be one of the major sources of waste found in the ocean, which poses a threat to various forms of marine life. Additionally, the waste is unsightly and diminishes the country’s natural aesthetics. The volunteers work to clean up garbage that would have been improperly disposed of, as well as other unwanted material in the coastal area. This initiative is important as it contributes to the data collection on the types and quantities of waste that our country produces, in an effort to develop better management practices.

The clean-up will begin at 8 am, with the Camerhogne Park being used as the central meeting point. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided for all the volunteers. Following the clean-up, refreshments will be provided in the vicinity of the Spiceland Mall.

CYEN will also be using this opportunity as a drive through which relief items for hurricane ravaged countries such as Dominica, can be collected. These items can be dropped off at the Camerhogne Park at the same time that cleanup material is being collected.

CYEN encourages the public to participate in support of International Coastal Cleanup and to also contribute the collection of relief for our fellow Caribbean islands.
