‘Navigating the Challenges Ahead’ was the theme under which the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC), Grenada Branch successfully hosted its 2nd Annual Accountants Week, during 22-28 October 2017.

Over 100 accountants and business professionals participated in the week of activities which included:

  • An opening mass at the Blessed Sacrament Church on Sunday;
  • A live panel discussion, on Monday with panelists Henry Joseph, Dr Kari Grenade, Allan Bierzynski and moderated by Christopher DeAllie. The informative and thought-provoking discussion focused on ideas for preserving the gains made to Grenada’s economy post structural adjustment.
  • On Tuesday, a seminar on the management of Cyber Security Risk was facilitated by Bruce DeVinney from the USA, with various IT Managers and other public and private sector entities participating;
  • Thursday and Friday targeted the accountants on island and included:
    • Technical Updates on the International Financial Reporting Standards by Nagin Lad, visiting professor from the UK;
    • A seminar on ‘Managing the Millennials’ by Bernard Antoine, and a seminar on ‘Managing your Health’ by Dr Shawn Charles

The week of activities culminated with a well-attended gala dinner & awards ceremony on Saturday night at the Radisson Crown Ballroom, featuring keynote speaker Conrad Enill, Former Energy and Finance Minister, in the Ministry of Finance of Trinidad & Tobago

Enill implored all in attendance to see their roles as advocates and politicians to move the economy forward. He warned that while our laid back and friendly personality as Grenadians has won us much popularity in the tourism sector, it will not be sufficient to preserve and improve upon the structural adjustment gains made. He also admonished that we must be proactive and diligent to provide technical support and advise while holding our nation’s leaders accountable.

On Saturday night all Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) members on island were recognised and awarded by ACCA Caribbean with a special commendation for the longest serving members currently in practice: WR Agostini (44 years) and Henry Joseph (43 years).

The ICAEC Grenada Branch also recognised:

  • Retired Joseph Bain, the longest serving ACCA Professional Accountant in Grenada;
  • Marjorie Lander for her development of the Accountancy Profession through Education & Mentoring
  • Allan Bierzynski for his development of the Accountancy Profession through Advocacy.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean, Grenada Branch expresses profound gratitude to its sponsors, participants and facilitators for contributing to the resounding success of Accountants Week 2017.

The institute stands committed to facilitating events that will boost and positively impact the Accountancy Profession in Grenada.
