With its mandate being service to community, the Rotaract Club of Grenada embarked on its food drive project which ran for 2 Saturdays in February and March 2018. The objective of this yearly project is to collect food items that can be given to families who are challenged to provide for themselves.
Upon completion of the drive, 150 hampers were prepared for distribution to families in St Andrew. This number shows an increase of 30 hampers from the previous year.
On Sunday, 11 March the Rotaract Club of Grenada joined the Rotaract Club of Grenada East, to make the distribution throughout the big parish. Many families were happy to receive the packages. Some were filled with smiles; others were brought to tears.
One family mentioned, “This will go a long way for us, as we are barely making ends meet.” Another recipient mentioned that he had a stroke and had very little but still had to prepare meals for a neighbour who is blind and has no one to care for him. He was very happy for the donation.
The communities of Telescope, Baghdad, Paradise, Pearls, Caruth, Walker, Conference, Simon, Mt Horne, Mt Carmel, Marquis and other areas were on the receiving end.
This year’s project received great support from the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA), the RGPF, supermarkets and the people of Grenada. The club extends its gratitude to every contributor to the project and looks forward to 2019 when it is scheduled to happen again.
