Jalani Franklyn has been elected as the Grenada Athletic Association’s first athlete representative to sit on the Grenada Athletic Association’s Executive Council.
At an athlete consultation hosted by the Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) on Saturday, 8 September, a cross section of Grenada’s athletes appointed Franklyn to the board of the GAA. Franklyn won the ballot in a closely contested election where he defeated Donisha Brathwaite by 1 vote.
Franklyn is an athlete with the SpeedZone Track Club and actively competes in the 400 metres and 400-metre hurdles events.
In speaking after the event Franklyn indicated that he was not expecting the selection of himself as the representative and looks forward to working in the interest of Grenada’s track and field athletes.
The appointment is seen as a critical step in the formation of an athlete association/commission for the sport. The consultations continue this Saturday at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, for coaches at 10 am. Next Saturday’s consultation will be for track and field enthusiast.
