For the 7th consecutive year, the GUT Cooperative Credit Union (GUTCU) has made the pursuit of tertiary education possible for students hoping to enter the grounds of the TA Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
The credit union recently presented 17 Year-One students with tuition scholarships. In addition, the top performing recipient from 2017 also received an award to complete her program. Traditionally, 10 scholarships have been granted, however, this year was different. “The GUTCU is about people helping people. We saw that there was such a great need among the applicants that we knew we had to do more,” said Florina Thomas, chairperson of the credit union’s education committee. “I hope that the recipients will continue to succeed and go on to make a positive difference in their communities and in Grenada as a whole.”
Applicants were required to submit an essay outlining their future goals, and applications were reviewed by the GUTCU’s Education Committee which is responsible for the credit union’s education outreach and community involvement. At the ceremony the credit union reaffirmed its commitment to providing opportunities for the development of youth and the communities in which it operates. Since 2012, over 90 students have benefitted from the GUT Credit Union’s TAMCC scholarship.
