On Thursday, 30 August 2018, the Market Access and Rural Enterprise Development Programme (MAREP) held an official handing-over ceremony of irrigation materials to farmers at the Ministry of Works facility at Beausejour, St George.
The irrigation supplies/input consisted of water tanks, hoses, shade netting, pipe fittings and lines costing approximately EC$45,990. The recipients of the supplies (18 in Carriacou and 10 in Grenada) successfully completed an Irrigation Training on the Maintenance and Operation of Irrigation Technology in 2016.
Byron Campbell, Programme Manager in his opening remarks highlighted MAREP’s commitment of providing assistance to farmers with pertinent training and equipment. In addition, the newly launched Climate Smart Agriculture Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP)’s objective of providing farmers with information and training on Climate Smart Farming techniques and practises.
Dr Malachy Dottin, Representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands gave some brief remarks on the benefits of the irrigation equipment and the Ministry’s commitment to provide continuing support to farmers islandwide.
MAREP continues to fulfil its commitment of providing varying assistance to farmers throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique until its final completion by 30 September 2018.
