- Six Senses Grenada project unveiled on Friday
- 1% of the hotel’s revenue towards a social fund
- Will employ between 500 to 600 persons during peak construction period
When in operation, the investors of Grenada’s latest tourism project disclosed that it will use 1% of the hotel’s revenue towards a social fund to be used for social corporate responsibility projects.
Addressing the unveiling ceremony of Six Senses Grenada on Friday at Silversands Grenada, investor Mohammed Asaria said that the impact of the US$125 million property in La Sagesse, St David, will be felt islandwide.
The project is approved by the Citizenship By Investment (CBI) programme. In the immediate, the investors will be distributing schoolbags and wheelchairs to some of Grenada’s most needy and vulnerable. “We are talking of both the young and the elderly,” said Asaria who points out that a nation is judged by the way it treats its elderly and children.
The more than 100-room all-inclusive property, during its peak construction period will employ between 500 to 600 persons and is scheduled to open in early 2022. All the pre-construction studies are completed according to the investor. These include environmental assessment and soil testing.
“We will do justice to the site,” Asaria promised. “There will be challenges and I am confident we will work together and overcome this together. Our destiny is gainfully intertwined, the success of this project is a success for Grenada,” he said.
Tourism Minister Clarice Modeste described the project as a significant day for the tourism industry as it will bring development to the parish, increase room stock and contribute to more airlift to the island.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell said that the investment is reflective of confidence in the economy by a foreign investor who is also observing that Grenadian hoteliers are themselves either expanding or renovating property. “This means benefits for everyone. Foreign investors will not come if the locals are not taking the risk,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by several government ministers and tourism industry stakeholders.
In March 2019 Prime Minister Mitchell announced that Range Developments, which also has properties in St Kitts and Dominica, will be constructing 2 properties in Grenada.
We are still accepting beads for gold.
SHOCKING!!
No talk about impact of these developments on marine life
I cringe about the super development that will be La Sagesse. As a child, it was always our go to beach. Nearly every weekend and during school vacation we were there. During the week, we would run to the beach in the wee hours of the morning and eat starch mangoes and sugar cane on the way back. While I know that progress is necessary, I’m just afraid of the changes that will forever alter that beautiful beach.
1% give back is not enough to compensate for altering this landscape.
Grenada should construct its own investment in hotels and dwellings and hospitals for their selves foreign people in their country have no space Grenada is to easy Grenadians to laid back be visible,
Grenada For Sale, Again! Who really benefits from the land give away in my beloved country. I remember Sandals promising to create 900 jobs, nearly 10% of the population. Who really benifits from these schemes, do their profits stay in Grenada or are we being used simply to create wealth for foreign companies. Why can’t Grenada invest in it’s own hotel industry in a desperate attempt to empower Grenadians?.. Shame.
