  • Luxury hotel at Port Louis, St George’s and 5-star eco spa resort in St Mark to be built
  • Spice Land Limited announced that they had sold all the lands which it owns at Port Louis to JDC 2
  • Main financer behind JDC 2 is Naguib Sawiris

Joyau des Caraibes Ltd (JDC) the company which recently completed the 5-star Silver Sands Resort, has announced its intention to invest millions in the hospitality sector.

A joint press release from Port Louis Limited and Mount Cinnamon whose developer is Spice Land Limited announced that they had sold all the lands which it owns at Port Louis to JDC. The main financer behind JDC is Naguib Onsi Sawiris, Egyptian billionaire businessman. Sawiris is chairman of Weather Investment’s parent company, and chairman of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding SAE.

“The concept of the Port Louis development has been the brainchild of Peter de Savary. For the past 12 years the positive achievements of Port Louis have been lauded and acclaimed globally,” said the release which explained that one of the important achievements was the positive and powerful exposure and credibility that has attracted worldwide interest in Port Louis as a result of the mega yacht marina created by de Savary, now owned and operated successfully by Camper & Nicholson.

Spice Land Limited explains that the sale of its surplus development land at the Mount Cinnamon Resort to JDC is to build another first-class hotel and other related facilities.

The release said that Peter de Savary, having created the successful Mount Cinnamon Resort Hotel which is highly rated internationally and provides exceptional exposure for Grenada overseas, will continue his involvement with the resort which employs about 100 people. De Savary will now focus on a project in St Mark.

“During this time, attention will be focused on creating a 5-star eco spa resort project at the Tufton Hall plantation in the mountains above Victoria. This will bring a new dimension to tourism in Grenada and in due course, attract considerable international media interest whilst providing economic activity and many jobs in the north-west of the country” said the release.

Peter de Savary has during the past 13 years, brought investment into the country worth millions of dollars and maintained his commitment to Grenada throughout the recession. “He has both economically and philanthropically been sensitive in his contributions to the country. He will continue to enjoy Grenada and play a positive role towards the ongoing success of the country’s future,” the release assured.

In his National Address on Sunday night, Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell, announced the project without providing details. “We are also buoyed by the fact that in the midst of this crisis, investor confidence remains high. The recent acquisition of Port Louis and Mount Cinnamon, with plans to add up to 500 new hotel rooms, in an investment worth more than US$350 million, speaks volumes for the recovery potential of our economy,” he said.

“It is important to note that no concessions will be given until the developer is ready to begin construction of the four hotels,” he told citizens who heard or viewed the address via radio. No date was provided for the start of feasibility studies or construction of the new properties.

Go back to your Native country and pretend to invest. If you know the history of Grenada then you’ll not call them backwards. You’re rude and ignorant. You should not be allowed in that beautiful island. Shame on Mitchell for selling out Grenada to foreigners!

hotels and accommodations are already expensive…when ppl come to grenada they rather stay in a guest house or air bnb. The all inclusive hotel prices are absolutely ridiculous. Only the rich and famous can stay at these hotels they are building. All Keith Mitchell is doing is giving away grenada land for free for investors. who dont care about nobody on the island

Backwater, where where people speak broken english and beg for a living….. interesting insight Mr Chan.. I take it you are the epitome of virtue sent to navigate us to prosperity.
However I find your tone very insulting and patronising
I would like to gently remind you that people are entitled to their opinions as are you, let us respect each other careless that we are backwater as you claim, I have seen throughout the annals of history the sad misfortunes of great nations and empires and their peopled reduced to nothing, India, Russia, Hungary, Africa etc so forgive us if you find us primitave by your standards, many are frustrated by the constant political promises that never materialize, when you have a family to feed and a future to face, one has the right to Express their opinions as part of nation.
And speaking broken english as you claim is not synonymous to Grenada alone, matter of fact it adds to our charm disguises our intellect from pompous know it alls.
And exactly what is your contribution to our nation Mr Chan?
I dear say If you are an investor then you would be well placed to upgrade our schools so we learn proper english, and you will also be well placed to make us front water on the same spot that you call BACKWATER.
    until then Mr chan
    NAMASTE….

Indigenous Grenadian are the laughing stock of the world. It seems like anybody could just show up here under the name of an “Investor” and get free or cheap land along with royal treatment.

Only a dreamer will believe that someone will bring money to invest for his/her benefits, especially when these so called “Investors” are not related to us, don’t know and don’t care about us.

We Indigenous Grenadians need to wake up. Grenlec, the Airport and the Port will be gone soon.

How much did DeSavary get for the sale, did the government make any money since the 12 years passed.

Excuse me , Mr. Chad Chen, that’s how you see us? look what we get as a result of the virus. A broken economy built on one leg, tourism. Who benefits not the people , that’s why you see us as backward people ,beging for a living and speaking broken english. Do you want to come and change we cullture by enforcing your language and enslaving our people? I dear to believe that. Lets hope the planes fly again and the ships sail soon. Not for the billoniares but for Grenadians so theu won’t have to beh you

Firstly, I have to say to Dr. Keith Mitchell why are you sanctioning these proposed new hotels when Grenada has plenty of high end hotels already? I am British who has been visiting Grenada for 24 years & am married to a Grenadian gentleman. Secondly, has Dr. Keith Mitchell done his background checks on Peter DeSavray? I lived in Cornwall, England for many years & remember him purchasing the land at Lands End, a beauty spot in Cornwall which he turned into a man made debacle of supposedly holiday attractions which were not in keeping with the beautiful cliffs & bird habitats… charging people expensive entrance fees irrespective of whether they wanted to venture into the man made attractions or simply walk the footpaths around the area. He then sells up at a vast profit & proceeds to purchase Penzance Dry Dock promising huge investment to create much needed jobs by local Cornish people… next thing is he pulls out of the deal leaving everyone crestfallen that he didn’t keep his word… and he disappeared from Cornwall. I was then absolutely shocked to read in Hello magazine some 13 years ago that the very same Mr Peter De Savray had turned up in Grenada having purchased the land at Port Louis for development & had purchased Cinnamon Hill … compulsory purchasing the apartments there, turfing out Rudolph from the very successful restaurant and opening it up as another upmarket hotel.. Mr Peter DeSavray is not interested in the people of Grenada but only in lining his pockets .
The last thing Grenada needs is more over priced hotels… there are enough of them already…
As for the comments made by Mr Chad Chen … who do you think you are talking about Grenadian people like that??? Where are you actually from??? Maybe China or some such Asian country who seem to moving into Grenada in vast quantities…. you obviously are not interested in the people of Grenada to have made such derogatory insults about them… these hard working people have suffered injustices for years from the French & English invading their land then being ruled by incompetent governments over the years who have never actually been interested in enhancing the quality of life for the ordinary working class people who have no rights whatsoever. I love Grenada and the people there & I find it very upsetting to read after how hard people have struggled through these last few months of Covid 19 lockdowns it feels like once again nobody in government acknowledges their hardships & instead allow the likes of Mr Peter De Savray & his cronies to once again make millions of dollars from the lands which actually belongs to the people…

While I am sure this is very exciting for Grenada if the plans included a vegetable plot, herb gardens, avocado and various fruit trees to sustain and feed the visitors, maybe even to sell to locals this would also create jobs and real wealth. This way of gardening around a hotel complex could be a unique way forward. Forget the grass and using the land to bring forth so much more.

These foreign money men buying large swaths of local real estate. Small business is the engine of the economy. Most of the profits made by mega foreign investors are repatriated to their country og origin.

So do you have a better idea? Would you prefer to leave the island as it is? Do you think it should remain forever a backwater where backward people speak broken English and beg for a living.

Mr Chen if I went to China and spoke as you do about the locals it would be years if ever before I would be seen again. Aren’t you lucky that we in Grenada are as backward as you suggest and allow people like you to think they are better than we are.

Mr Chen i know you mean well! People in Grenada are genuine! we hardly have pretenders in our midst. The vast majority of folks work hard for what they require, to think with our limited resourses we came from colonial “Backwater” to something. When i look around My country i see alot of Hard working folk trying to make ENDS in this global system which only wishes for us to remain consumers for products, as play Ground for their pleasures and to keep us in perpertual state of poverty. But mind you sometimes one must play the role of the fool to catch the bigger fool. Have a good day sir.

One could tell you are not Grenadian hence your ignorant comment. Tell your government to fix your country so you can reside there. Funny how you are the same ones that like to condemn America for getting involved in the affairs of other nations yet doing the same thing. MIND YOUR BUSINESS!!!
