Statement in response to today’s protest outside US Embassy Grenada in L’Anse Aux Epines:

“Guided by our founding principles of freedom and equality and our Constitutional charge to form a more perfect union, the United States supports free speech and peaceful assembly. We are committed to accountability and the elimination of racial discrimination. We support those who cry out for justice and the transparent judicial process to achieve it.”

US Embassy St George’s Principal Officer, Karl Duckworth

On Background:

There are ongoing investigations at the federal and state levels into the death of George Floyd.  On 29 May, Attorney General Bill Barr announced a federal civil rights investigation. This week the Minnesota Attorney General elevated the state’s charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder. The other 3 officers involved in the arrest of George Floyd have likewise been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, among other charges.

Great to hear that my people is becoming aware of what -Racism- has always been a part of this Great American Experience. It is very important to know that this is not only a white black thing. Any poor soul who are not “clearly black” upon arrival on American soil, immediately assume that they are in a higher status than blacks in america. This goes for all other cultures who ar not “clearly black”. Indians, chineese-asians, arabics, poor uneducated whites, and all others. This is supported by the police, and the institutions of America. To actually succeed in america as a black person, you must have something extra than everyone else. It is sad but true. Hopefully this George Floyd issue bring some change. A law should be made it charge Police Officers who harass the public taking video of them in operation-during arresting someone. The reason that all the other George Floyd’s of america is not on tape is because a cop stepped in and stop the video taping by pushing the person video taping the scene, grabbing their cameras, hand cuffing them, threatening them with a bogus charge of obstructing an arrest or even charging them with that. This to prevent the public from video taping their wrong doings. Again, hope this help to change America for the better. America will be super duper if can fix this. I think that it’s very important that all in America become aware that america was built by, and got all its wealth from FREE LABOUR. Wouldn’t you be rich if you had free labour for 200 and odd years. The american blacks should be appreciated for their contribution to this American Experience.

Just recently I read an article asking what the Caribbean was saying in the face of global racism highlighted by the killing of George Floyd in the US recently. As racism affects all black people everywhere, including the Caribbean, I was so pleased to hear that Grenadians were part of the worldwide protect against this nonsensical scourge polluting every aspect of black existence. Bravo Grenada together we stand decided we fall.
