- Caribbean Airlines repatriated over 25 Grenadians from Trinidad
- Departed with 75 Trinidadians from Grenada, including SGU students
- Maurice Bishop International Airport opened today for commercial passengers
More than 25 Grenadians who were stuck in Trinidad when the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) closed to commercial traffic in March as part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, have been repatriated.
Health Minister, Nickolas Steele, confirmed that all the persons including 8 Chinese on the flight which arrived shortly after midday on Wednesday, have been stuck in Trinidad since March. They were allowed to go to their places of residence because they came from a Covid-19 low-risk territory. “All of them were in Trinidad since March because of the lockdown,” he said.
Upon arrival at the airport, they underwent screening as mandated in the new health protocol. All persons tested negative in the rapid test. Trinidad and Tobago is classified as a low-risk or Green zone territory.
The Caribbean Airlines aircraft that repatriated the Grenadians, departed with 75 Trinidadians who were stuck in Grenada, 25 of whom were students pursuing further studies at St George’s University. The group will be quarantined on arrival.
Grenada officially opened Maurice Bishop International Airport today, 15 July for commercial passengers. However, because Covid-19 is affecting some areas worse than others, the Cabinet created 3 different categories for arriving passengers.
The Green zone or low-risk passengers are those coming from Caricom states with less than 20 Covid cases in the past 14 days; Yellow zone or medium are passengers from Canada, the European Union with the exception of Portugal. Red zone or High-Risk passengers are those who are from the USA, Russia, Portugal and Latin America.
Steele said on Tuesday that the health ministry will be continuously reviewing Covid-19 data from around the world and the countries will be placed in zones as reflected in World Health Organisation (WHO) data.
If you suspect this child’s life is in danger that is a whole other story and should be reported. If not then, isn’t it safer for to stay where there is less risk of being infected. While you may miss her, maybe this is the better decision.
A little common sense is necessary here. Your daughter was in Trinidad since March 15th when COVID deaths were rising daily in N Y. Just because you test negative on one day doesn’t mean you are immune from it. The information is constantly changing about this virus. No one is in the clear. This may be an inconvenience now bur a little sacrifice is necessary for the common good. I read your email twice. You said your child’s father did not return with her when the borders was wide open. Blame him not the TT government. Continue to pray this will be over soon.

You may be negative now but what happens when you go on the airport with huge crowds of persons? Do you know if they have it? Did they even do the test to show their status? Then you get here… a few days after you end up sick and you have it …. picked out up at the airport and brought it here? You may be in snow risk area in the US but Grenada has no control over the droves of people that you will meet in the airport before you come here….. people who may very well be from a high risk area and may very well have it….. so how do we STRATEGICALLY control that other than limiting US flights at this time until there is a better way to screen and be sure?
Everybody is just talking and seeing things they own selflessness way first of all I live in Canada . . Canada is America neighbor and they just extending the time again until sometime in August okay so the damn Caribbean ministers has right to protect they nation to he’ll with you American who is thinking close mind just like Trump . Our Premiere in Toronto say ” The American is reckless with dealing with the virus so because of that the boder will stay close until “. So stop been hypocrite cause is not just the Caribbean countries that don’t want you American read the new or watch the news . And be informed not followers on instagram, Facebook and everybody saying the same thing . Please sound Intelligent. Canada have the resources to fight the pandemic if it comes to them and they are the second largest Country in the world and they close up so leave the them Caribbean alone . To keep on keeping the nations Safe .Thank You ,Thank You
Is that related to border closure? Cause she said “the father won’t bring her back when the border was wide open” and then the Hague application is usually filed when a parent retains a child across international borders without the consent of another.
Seems like another situation there
It is unfair to penalize everyone as having corona in the US especially NY where the virus have been low. US have fifty states remember. Official should stop and find strategic ways to deal with the reopening of borders. Closing their borders to me is just a easy and inexpensive ways for Government. Stop trying to control people lives with this dam virus. Be realistic and practical find STRATEGIC ways of control. The lady with the 8 year old I joined today with you in pray. Watch God show up for your baby it’s time for her to come home. This really made me cry.
My 8 year old Daughter has been stuck in Trinidad since March 15th for spring break. I have tried everything I can to get her back home to me the primary custodial parent. she is healthy and a US citizen no reason she can’t come home. I Submitted a hague application to bring her home and nothing has happened. She has never Been away from her entire family for more than a few weeks during the summer. This has been the hardest of times only Seeing each other by Skype not able to hold my daughter for 4 months because her dad wouldn’t bring her back when the border was wide open. The desperation in her eyes haunts me daily. The tears and sadness and inability to do anything to bring her home. So unfair! I’m lost! Please somebody help! God hear my prayers!
Spring break at 8 years. Is she a college student at 8
I have booked my flight for home since February i took countless tests and they were all negative it is unfair to us who wants to come home have our tickets and not sure of a date just because we’re in the US
Your right, if people have been tested negative for COVID they should be able to enter Trinidad and Tobago or any d**m country. This PlanDemic is ALL politricks. Worldwide Politricks!!! But the perpetrators will be revealed very soon…
The DeePState DemonCraTs Are EviL Killary, GaTes Fauci & Others
Natasha, look at it from a different perspective. The government in T&T saw it fit to protect it’s people, so they closed their borders. Look at America, as an example…..had they shut down air travel, and closed our borders on the onset of this pandemic, we would be in a better place today!
I am a Trini who has booked an Air B&B for Xmas 2020 way before this pandemic. I hope everything goes as planned! If not, I would also hope that I am reimbursed fully for my rental of my stay!
Not everyone has corona virus in the USA and it’s unfair those who had booked vacations can’t enter. I am from Trinidad took the test and is negative

To the people who is not listening to news or watching television please start doing so Cause Canada is the second largest Country in the world and they close the boder from the American . Yesterday were the 15 of July and the premier of Canada close it back until sometime in August he Did not say if it will stay open or close when the time comes . ” what he said is that he love the American but he has a job to do to protect the Torontonians cause American is very reckless in dealing with the pandemic “. So if bigger countries is locking down who is the Caribbean to follow so stop talking shit about you guys country cause Trump is a prefer fool for a president the world is watching and is every day he keep doing more bullshit. I live in Canada so I don’t get my news my going and facebook, instagram and been a follower cause I am a Leader. So to all the Doctors, Nurses, Ministers, Police officer, And Essential Workers Thank You , Thank You for doing a Great Job that I Cannot do , may the good Lord keep You guys .Blessing on you with Patients, Courage, Love, Empathy, Wisdom And Understanding to deal with all kind of Negative People.
