The deadline for the importation of vehicles over 10 years is now 31 December 2020.
Cabinet has approved the extension of the ban in response to logistical challenges to individuals importing vehicles due to the impact of Covid-19.
Importers now have 3 additional months to complete transactions and finalise importation before the ban comes into effect. Importers however, must ensure that vehicles arrive in Grenada on or before that deadline. After 31 December 2020, vehicles 10 years and older will not be permitted Grenada except for those on the list of exceptions.
The importance of this ban is in line with government’s commitment to protecting the environment and preserving the health of the Grenadian people. The necessary legislative adjustments are currently being prepared to accommodate the extended deadline.
Meanwhile, as efforts continue to protect the environment and safeguard the health of the Grenadian people, government is finalising plans to simultaneously implement a 50% duty and tax concession on the importation of electric and hybrid vehicles, which takes effect from 30 September. Note the ban also extends to hybrid vehicles over 10 years.

WAKE UP GRENADIANS THIS IS A LIE AND AN INSULT TO YOUR AWARENESS
This is not about the environment.
Here are some facts:
All modern cars are equipment with with Catalytic converters. The Catalytic converters in the cars is what prevent the damage to the environment from fumes. So basically it doesn’t matter whether the car is 10 Yrs old or 15 Yrs old.
The government is using the excuse about the environment because the know most Grenadians don’t know better and will believe. The truth is that its about corruption and politics within the government.
People like the Steele’s who sells cars in Grenada and are supporting the Government are the ones this policy was put in place to support and not the poor Grenadian. The Government is forcing you to have to buy you car from the local dealer at crazy prices.
The are saying to protect the environment because the can’t say to protect the local car market because Grenada don’t produce car. So this means the only thing they are protecting is the Steele’s, Hubbards and the rest of these firms money.
The little opportunity the poor man had that afforded him to own a car is being taken from him and the Government ministers don’t care because they are not affected since the have duty free concessions and get others deals from the Steele’s and Hubbards.
Let the Government provide the justification and facts to support this policy. The can’t because there is none.
WAKE UP AND DEMONSTRATE FOR YOUR RIGHTS. Just don’t accept bullshit. Ask who’s idea it was to implement this policy. You will find out that it wasn’t the Government but in fact in was the Minister Steele and the other car dealers. The people deserve answers
FIRST OFF GRENADAN AINT HAVE NO ROAD FOR ALL THIS GARBAGE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE GETTING KILLED EACH AND EVERYDAY FROM CAR ACCIDENTS AND SECONDLY YOU JUST MAKING JAPANESE RICHER AND LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO SELL NEWER VEHICLES STRUGGLE. In the next 10-15 years Twice the amount of vehicles you see on the road will become abandoned due to people struggling to maintain their vehicles and keep them in perfect shape. YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ECONOMY. It aint no tax grab because at the end of the day WHEN PEOPLE DEMAND MORE MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO LIFT TAXES ON THE VEHICLES AND FORCE PEOPLE TO PAY EXTRA AND MOREEE! Do the maths! Grenada does not have the infrastructure it need to be capable of handling all these vehicles built for massive highways like in JAPAN. JAPAN IS DOING THE SAME THING WHICH IS DUMPING VEHICLES IN AFRICA AND THE CARIBBEAN. It’s not right! We need to stand up against what they are doing! YOU GRENADIANS ARE QUICK TO TALK ABOUT VEHICLES BEING BANNED but you aren’t quick enough to talk about the after effects it will have on the environment. we dont need all these vehicles. Grenada is a small country! We are not capable of handling all these vehicles!!!!!!! TAKE THE BUS. WALK OR TAKE A TAXI. Not everyone needs vehicles. There are like 5 vehicles per house hold in this country. just now vehicles might just out number the population!
support local businesses you are making the japanese richer as we take in their garbage you need to support your local economy!!! you guys have rights but dumb rights! poor people care about nothing else but themselves! at the end of the day vehicles become abandoned and more people get killed and at the end of the day grenada does not have roads for all these vehicles!!!!!! re educate yourself. stand up against japan for dumping garbage and dont stand up for some dumb right that shouldnt be given back to you. you need to support local businesses. newer cars are safer and you can still buy em. we dont need all this garbage in grenada.
I SUPPORT RHE BAN.AT THE END OF THE DAY WE HAVE NO ROAD AND PEOPLE KEEP ON GETTING KILLED. THEY NEED TO FISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM IMPORTING VEHICLES. Grenadians dont need vehicles to drive. Japan is not going to do anything with the abandoned vehicles problem down here. Ebay day vehicles are being abandoned creating problems for the enviroment. Apparantly some small minded grenadian people are just too dumb to see that japan is trying to dump their vehicles. When people cant fix their vehicles or pay for parts they just abandon it and 10 years from now the country will become a wasteland and dump for japanese cars. Cars are creating the breeding of mosquitos. So what is more important. Taking in our garbage or saving our enviroment by importing less cars. Grenada is a poor country. Very impoverished country with people having a poor mindset. They oppose the construction of hotels and restaurants. They need to start oppressing vehicle buyers. They need to make it harder for people to bring in vehicles because at he end of the day where will we go???? We have no road. We need to stop buying old vehicles which is considered to be garbage but buy newer vehicles from local dealers supporting the local economy. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES NOW AND EDUCATE YOURSELF. JAPAN IS DUMPING THEIR GARBAGE.
“This should say as follows: “The Ban is to protect and further the continued oppression of Indigenous Grenadians as usual.”
Anything to oppress us and make us subservient others, you can count on our so-called representatives to be on board full-time.”
There are no “indigenous” Grenadians left. The last ones jumped to their death at Caribs Leap. ALL the current inhabitants form part of the colonising forces.
Too many cars, too little road. This be problem that easy for all to see. Watch what happen soon with china cars. Start with the cheap tractor they send then here come the junk cars next. Soon Grenada become Chinada I tell you. Picture this, they build some go fast train around island, great for environment? But, they got move all the china workers around daily to keep up their Chinada island.

I’m with “Speaking the Truth.”Fakh
Grenada is a poor country all of grenadians who live in poverty can’t understand that we dont need vehicles! take the bus! Grenada has no highway for all these vehicles. Every day more people are being killed in traffic accidents and there is more traffic jams. Japanese are just dumping their garbage and Grenadians are too dumb to see that. At the end of the day Japan becomes richer and Grenada becomes a dump and watse land. I do not know why grenadians are so angry about something that can save the enviroment. Instead of supporting local economies car dealers and businesses grenadians rather make japanese richer who dont even care about our enviroments. Grenadians don’t need cars to get around. You have a bus transportation system and a taxi system. Because at the end of the day we have no more road for all of these vehicles. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES NOW!
This is absolute nonsense. Grenadians should object to this. It’s a lie in the disguise of saving the environment. This only serve to protect the market of car manufacturers and dealers of newer vehicles. So the “well-to-do” will continue have an advantage. The government could create incentives to encourage people dispose of dead cars. In fact there used to be barge from Trinidad and Tobago which use to take ole cars to the smelting plant.
Public transport is sparse throughout the island and is only frequent in the tourist built area.
This is clearly working in favors those businesses who donate to political organizations. This is disgusting beyond and nothing to do with the environment.
If government really care they promote and encourage Hybrid and electric vehicles. What happened to older Hybrid vehicles which fuel efficient and good for the environment?
I can agree with you and yes I think they should remove the ban for older hybrid and electric vehicles but i don’t think they should do the same for petrol and diesel vehicles.

You are totally correct, Hugo!
But still You need to support your local economy and business. why you think more grenadians buy newer vehicles these days? When you buy a vehicle from japan or usa money is going out of the country but when you buy a newer vehicle from steele’s or huggins money is kept in the country. it is better to support local dealers than japanese because you just making japanese richer. Most countries like trinidad have their own dealers. And it is the same thing down here so please help your own businesses. Japanese dont care about enviroments and they wont do anything to help us fix the roads.
