Grenada confirms its 28th case of Covid-19

24 October 2020
in Health, PRESS RELEASE

The Ministry of Health confirms that an individual who arrived in Grenada via a private carrier from France on 16 October has since tested positive for Covid-19.

The 32-year-old male is Grenada’s 28th laboratory diagnosed case. He has been quarantined since arrival as per the entry protocols of the State, and is so far asymptomatic.

The other individuals aboard that flight all tested negative, and are also in quarantine and under observation.

Meanwhile, the 3 previously announced positive cases (Cases 25, 26 and 27) are still quarantined and not yet medically cleared. The known contacts of Case 25 who were also in quarantine have completed their incubation period and were retested. All returned negative results and have been cleared by health officials.

The Ministry reminds the public to remain cautious in daily activities, and to adhere to all health and safety guidelines for maximum protection of the tri-island state.

While our defence systems are proving to be effective in catching and isolating the disease at our borders and on our shores, we can never be too confident. As we have seen, one misstep can have catastrophically rippling effects throughout our small population. We must work together if we are to ultimately win the battle against this deadly disease.

As we continue to welcome our returning residents and visitors, we urge everyone to comply with the mandates of the State regarding testing and quarantining. Your personal responsibility ensures Grenada’s immunity. Practice good hygiene, maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet, and wear your mask or face-covering when out in public.

If you believe that you have been exposed to the virus, or you are displaying symptoms similar to those of the Coronavirus, call us on mobile #473 458 4787/473 538 4787 or landline 473 440 2649, or visit our Facebook page at facebook.com/HealthGrenada.

My understanding – and I stand (to be) corrected, is that there are two groups arriving in Grenada: 1. Those who are returning or entering our country’s public space and 2. Those who are going to hotels. But first, everyone coming to Grenada, except from approved CARICOM countries, must have done a PCR test within 7 days prior to departure from their source locations. Those who are entering our public space are quarantined for four days and tested (again) before being allowed to circulate in Grenada. But those who are going to hotels are NOT tested again. And this is the Achilles Heel of the programme partly because the PCR tests are only 70% accurate and partly because some hotel visitors could have caught the virus AFTER they took their PCR test overseas. Let’s hope we can effectively manage the contagion fallout from this – and no one dies from the virus in Grenada as a result.

Please read the information. People coming into the country are tested. The test showed the person is positive. As a result everyone else on the trip was tested. Why create an issue. Keep staying safe, social distancing, wear masks, look out for each other. Now is not the time to be critical and negstive.

Private carrier from France? What does this mean ?

Is our Government allowing private people to carry COVD 19 into our country from infected area for the sake of money?

If this could be proven, then it is our Ministry of health guided by the minister of inland security that is careless. Not we the people.

Mask, face, hands washing and physicall distance do not carry COVD19 . Selfish Travelling peopl do. He or she is delibrately risking our lives. Several of us have lost faith and confidence in the stratehy and policy of this health ministry, in particulary the minister of health .They have continually been putting money before our health and safety.

Would France allow a private carrier from COVD 19 Grenada to enter into its country thus putting additional burden on its people and ministry of health?. This is a farce. Our ministrry of health and its chief is totally careless and it could be argued that they are committing a crimr aganist the people of Grenada state wise.

If you relax and understand the article the individual in question came via private jet… not commercial airline…
