The Grenada Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism are in negotiations with Seabourn and Sea Dream Yacht Club about resuming cruise calls to Grenada.
These discussions are aimed at creating income-generating activities for many Grenadians who are affected by the suspension of cruise ship calls to the island. A task force comprising key stakeholders in the cruise industry is looking at modalities for restarting the industry and holding discussions with the cruise lines.
As part of the discussions, requests have been made to secure access to uncrowded beaches to minimise personal contact between locals and visitors, thus reducing any possible transmission of disease. In this pandemic period, the first and foremost priority of the Government is to keep the shores of the tri-island state safe and to ensure responsible, diverse economic recovery.
Since the pandemic became full-blown, thousands of Grenadians involved in the tourism industry have lost their jobs, so the Government is working cautiously to restore their jobs while preserving the health of the nation.
Sea Dream Yacht Club is proposing to work with Barbados, Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. It will operate from Barbados, and only persons with negative tests will be allowed to board.
Seabourn will operate from Barbados, and only persons who produce negative Covid-19 tests will be allowed into that country. They will then be tested in Barbados before boarding the ship, and will be strictly monitored while on board. This ship will cruise once every 14 days.
5 other islands are involved in this southern cruise. They are Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, and St Kitts/Nevis.
The Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation thanks the general public for their feedback and suggestions, and urges patience and solidarity as we work together to emerge from this latest crisis.

Stop coming out with this china nonsense.let me put some sense into your head. Shut up with the afro china rumors. China has nothing to do with tourism or hotel projects. Why they want tourism open up again? BECAUSE YOU AND YOUR MONEY HUNGRY DEMANDING GRENADIAN PEOPLE demand the poor government to pay more and more money to public servants and civil servants. What do you think will happen if grenada had paid every teacher we would have been broke. There needs to be tourism and keith Mitchell knows what he is doing. The poor man not doing good cause yall stressing him out. Just shut it with this china nonsense. Grenada is building hotels to expand the tourism sector. What would you do to help create employment and help farmers make profit. You people do nothing but run your mouth on the government and the chinese investing and building hotels. THEY ARE NOT TAKING OVER. It is just a hotel. Black or white or chinese it is still a hotel. Local construction companies have been contracted and more than 4000 locals have been employed to build the hotels. Unlike you. you would never be able to do nothing to provide 4000 temporary jobs and 3500 permanent jobs. You can never provide benefits for the poor and farmers. You need to shut it with the china rumors. You guys do nothing but destroy the development and growth of this country. I’ve been to canada and half of the people living there are chinese, half of the condos are Chinese built and Canada is one of the fastest growing countries. Unlike down here we oppose everything. What do you think would have happened during 10-20 years ago. Grand anse would have been so dead. Grenadians need to just be quiet and go re educate themselves. If you cant build a local hotel and do something that would provide jobs shut it and dont complain. Well put together statement

Oh yes, I forget to say… Cruise ships are floating virus colonies waiting for a host (an island) to infect. Breaking news: Grenada’s 25th case is returning national from Canada who breached mandatory quarantine. That was 1 person, picture thousands on a cruise ship week after week. A wise position is no doubt to wait for an international vaccine. Economic disaster during that time, yes. But a major health disaster (virus run rampant) during same time would cost many lives. Is hand full of silver to be compared to value of lives? I suppose that depend on who hand the silver go to.
The answer is in Grenada… being dependent on tourism primarily brings money to government and tourist industry. Such a model for economics will result in foreign investors building more and more hotels and yes, one day soon casinos. And while all this is happening the resources of Grenada are being wasted. We need community farms, manufacturing, with improved infrastructure and become far less dependent of foreign goods. Employment opportunities and development of the trades and skills therein is paramount.
Or… watch Grenada become Chinada and the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. One day, foreign money will come for more and more land, debt will abound to countries like China and the point of no return will have been reached. Grenada, please wake up just now.
Well.then what can we do to survive???? Answer that then. Cocoa and banana can barely pay for anything and we have no oil. We can only use what we have.

We are going down the same rat hole, if cov19 have thought us anything is to diversify our economy. Tourism should not be the be all and end of our lives. Tourism offers us low wages and high risk let’s look at new local opportunities with minimal risk and high wages/upskilling our young people. Let’s reduce our dependence on our former colonial masters, we will always get the short end of the stick (when you mess with the bull you generally get the horn)
HOW ABOUT WE JUST HAVE DAYS WHERE ONLY BLACK LOCAL GRENDIANS CAN GO AND THEN WHITE BLUE EYED FOREIGNERS CAN GO. MORE SEGREGATION MORE SEGREGATION MORE SEGREGATION. Government please allow local Grenadians to enjoy our lovely country with sandy beaches, lush jungle and amazing nature before we finally become doomed low of money before we have no choice but to just exploit our country to COVID HOITSPOTS.
GRENADIANS! When nothing is happening and nothing is going on what the hell is going to happen?? Every is demanding more money from the Government! What will happen if there is no money at all given the Fact that Grenada is a poor country. They will have to open up borders one way or the other. If no money comes in we wont have anything left. People have no money and the tourism industry is down. When people lose their jobs and money for months how are we going to get them back. I know we are a poor country but we have to take certain risks. I just hope that Covid 19 does no explode in Grenada or else we are doomed.
When is this govt going to pur GRENADIANS first??? Stop catering and crawling on your belly to places like Sandals and allow them to make decisions that affect the island when they have NO right to. Support the locals first and the small businesses trying to stay alive.
This lady should go hide herself through retirement or construct a swimming pool at her house to accommodate them and leave our beaches alone.
By the way, she and her so-called government should leave Maurice Bishop International Airport as is because it meets our needs for the foreseeable future, plus we don’t have any money to pay back useless loans from predator China.
If she and her so-called government is going to take any airport loan at this time, which we already know country cannot pay back, Indigenous Grenadians need understand that this is essentially a sale of our airport.
it is not a sale so shut up with that stupid ndc kinda talk. when we cant upgrade our airport how the hell are we going to accomedate more planes and take in more people. the world is advancing and we need to upragade the airport one way or the other. stop using these stupid rumors and lies about china to further your hate agenda against China and the Government of Grenada. We will still be using the same old airport and less planes would be coming if we keep the infrastructure of that airport the way it is 50 years from now. want it to now fall apart and then you would start saying the government should fix it?? you should think twice before posting such an ignorant comment.
It looks like there is an issue with digesting logic so you are resorting to name calling and diversions from the issue. Do you honestly think Chinese people would leave their homes to come to Grenada to run a charity or for just altruistic reasons? You better wake up from your pipe dream as the world doesn’t work this way.
No lender gives a borrower a loan if the borrower is financially strap, like Grenada is, unless the lender wants to hold on to the security, which in the this case, our Airport. Look at the China’s track record; it speaks for itself.
Secure access to uncrowded beaches? There are deserted beaches all over the Island. Y’all better not be talking about barring locals’ access to Grand Anse on cruise days.
That is the unbelievable rumour sadly 🙁
